Cups → Grams Converter

Convert US cups to grams for common baking ingredients.

Formula

Grams = Cups × g-per-cup

How to use

  1. 1Enter the number of cups.
  2. 2Pick the ingredient.
  3. 3Read the weight in grams (and the volume in millilitres).

About this calculator

A cup of flour is not a fixed amount: scoop and pack it and you fit half as much again as a gently spooned cup. That variability is why cup-based recipes bake inconsistently and why serious bakers weigh ingredients. This converter turns cups into grams by ingredient, so you can swap a wobbly volume for a precise weight.

Formula explained

Grams = Cups × grams-per-cup, and grams-per-cup is set by the ingredient’s density. There is no single number: flour ≈ 120 g, granulated sugar ≈ 200 g, butter ≈ 227 g, honey ≈ 336 g per US cup. One US cup is 236.6 ml.

Worked example

1 cup of all-purpose flour = 120 g, about 236 ml. Weigh 120 g and you have exactly what the recipe intends.

Tips & notes

  • Keep a digital scale with 0.1 g resolution; it is cheap and accurate.
  • Tare the bowl before each ingredient so you weigh only what you add.
  • When a recipe gives both cups and grams, trust the grams.
